Advocacy Timeline
- 2018 – 2021: Alabama Possible serves as the state liaison for the Degrees When Due initiative with the Institute for Higher Education Policy. Providing input on challenges faced by adult learners in the state, Alabama Possible advocates for institutional debt-forgiveness and brings attention to the degree audit process.
- August 2022: In partnership with Alabama Commission on Higher Education, the Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Transformation, and Third Sector; the (Re)Engage Alabama Initiative was launched as an adult attainment-focused Continuous Improvement Meeting Series intended to align multiple initiatives targeting students over age 25 seeking baccalaureate degrees.
- May 2023: Alabama Possible supported Senate Bill 175 to create the ReEngage Alabama Grant Program with the purpose of encouraging adults to return to college and complete degree programs connected with workforce development by providing financial assistance to these learners.
Advocacy Wins
- October 2023: The Biden-Harris Administration released final rules to strengthen oversight of institutions of higher education. These regulations will restrict colleges from withholding course credits paid for with Federal money from students’ transcripts.
