News outlets around Alabama are highlighting the March 1 priority deadline for financial aid to pay for technical or academic programs at two- or four-year colleges. All students who plan to go to college in Fall 2019 should complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who file their FAFSA after March 1 receive half as much financial aid as students who file earlier.
Most families receive financial aid after completing their FAFSA, but last year $24 billion in financial aid went unclaimed because families failed to fill out the FAFSA.
