Birmingham-Southern College is just a few miles away from Ramsay High School, but most of the 9thgrade students in Blueprints this year had never visited the BSC campus.
That changed on Tuesday, April 28 when we bussed all 225 Ramsay 9th graders in our program to BSC.
Even though all of these students are still a few years away from having to choose what college they will attend after they graduate from high school, the aim of this trip was to give them a small taste of college-life. In addition to 9th graders who have a few years to make a college decisions, we had a Ramsay High School 12th grade student, who had to make her college decision within a few days, join our tour. This 12th grade student was back on campus to get more of a feel for campus life, and she served as a role model and an example for her 9th grade peers.
Our day began at Munger Auditorium where students were welcomed by Birmingham-Southern’s President, General Krulak.
The students then had the opportunity to participate in a panel of current BSC students. The panel consisted of the incoming student government president, two of our Blueprints mentors, and other student leaders on campus.
Students also had the opportunity to hear from Brian Quisenberry, Director of Financial Planning, and ask questions about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students then broke into small groups for campus tours.
Our day ended by the Birmingham-Southern lake with pizza, games, and enthusiasm about the opportunities for our students at Birmingham-Southern College and college in general.
Hosting our Blueprints students from Ramsay High School was a campus-wide effort for Birmingham-Southern College. Birmingham-Southern’s Admissions, Financial Planning, Bunting Center, and Student Government all contributed in making this trip possible for students.
