About Dr. Ruthanna Payne Blake:
In 1998, Auburn University began a learning community program with two cohorts of 25 students. In 2010, they will welcome 1,250 learning community students to campus. The secret to our growth is no secret at all – collaboration with faculty and administrators who care about students, listening to student feedback and adjusting accordingly, and ongoing evaluation that proves that our learning communities are contributing to student performance and retention on our campus. Through consulting with peer institutions, conducting ongoing research, more consulting with peer institutions, attending working conferences, and of course trial and error we have developed an effective and efficient model for implementing and growing learning communities.
In an intensive, daylong working session, the Learning Community Boot Camp will take you through our model step by step with an end result of a strategic plan to take home and implement for the 2010-2011 academic year.
