APP Summer Legal Intern Ethan Picone, who is a rising 2L at The University of Alabama School of Law

Ethan is a graduate of Clemson University with a major in history and a concentration in African-American history.  A native of Peabody, Massachusetts, he recently finished his first year of law school at APP Cornerstone Member The University of Alabama School of Law.

We sat down with Ethan recently for an introductory conversation to learn more about him and his interests.  Here’s what he had to say:

What do you hope to do after law school? Practice labor law and work for the National Labor Relations Board.

What are your hobbies outside of school? Rugby and hockey

What do you like most about Alabama? Talladega Super Speedway and To Kill a Mockingbird

How did you get involved with Alabama Possible? I wanted to work for a non-profit for my 1L summer, and luckily I found Alabama Possible through the law school as part of its Public Interest Institute, which allows law students to work for community-based organizations.

What will you being working on this summer at Alabama Possible? I am doing research for the Ending Childhood Hunger in Alabama (ECHA) Task Force.

What is your vision for Alabama ten years from now? Through work done by the ECHA Task Force, Alabama residents will have greater access to nutritious foods to simultaneously fight both the hunger and obesity problems that plague the state. Food security implicates other collateral issues of poverty, and hopefully the program will not focus solely on feeding children balanced and nutritious foods, but also on the causes of their households’ inability to provide enough food for a healthy and active lifestyle.
